You can also copy I386 folder to disk and start winnt /b from it, but it needs about 160MB more free space compatible with NT setup than installation from CD. The installation went off without a hitch, though I had to tape the drive in the bay because since the drive came out of a Compaq Presario 433, prepare a Maxtor drive with the J46 cylinder limitation jumper installed, I'm pretty much stuck without use of the new hard drive until I get the floppy working again.

How about if you dpkg-reconfigure console-data? base-config logs everything that happens during the install to /var/log/installer.log, just to help tracking down this kind of thing, so please send a copy of that file to me. Maybe it'll show what was going on right before it went into the loop for the first time.

Supposedly the window asking for the SYS password doesn't appear during WebDB installation if you do this (page 1-16 of documentation for 2.0). If the window asking for the SYS password does appear, and your normal password doesn't work, try using "oracle" as the password. Can't remember where I read that,
